Guidance for New Students
The USC has a specific programme for providing information and promoting its academic offerings, which includes information about the CSHG. It also has a specific unit dedicated to pre-university guidance, the University Information Office (OIU), with a university participation and integration service (SEPIU) that works to integrate people with disabilities and a Programme for Non-EU Students (PATEX).
The CSHG has its own programmes for providing information and promoting its study programmes through its website. It has a programme of open days and virtual tours, offering personal guidance interviews for prospective students.
At the beginning of each academic year, the USC holds welcome days at its university centres, organised by the Vice-Chancellor's Office responsible for student affairs (Vice-Rectorate for Student Affairs, Culture and Continuing Education), which aim to introduce new students to the possibilities, resources and services offered by the university. For its part, the CSHG provides a range of welcome and orientation activities for new students, particularly those living on campus, within the framework of a process of personalised support for successful integration.
At the beginning of each academic year, a course presentation day is held, providing students with all the relevant information to ensure proper integration from day one. Each course is assigned a tutor, and there is a tutoring system in place throughout the academic year, offering support both individually and in groups.
The USC has a student-tutor programme for undergraduate courses, whereby final year students, after receiving training from the university, offer support and guidance to new students.
Criteria for Discontinuation of a Degree Programme
In the event of the discontinuation of an official degree programme, the USC ensures the effective completion of the courses that students have already begun. To this end, the University’s Governing Council approves criteria related to, among others:
- The admission of new students to the degree programme.
- The gradual discontinuation of teaching.
- If the discontinued programme is replaced by a similar one (changing the nature of the degree), it establishes conditions enabling students to continue their studies in the new programme and equivalencies between the subjects on the old and new programmes.
